Typica

This is one of the most important varieties, as its genetics are part of so many other amazing coffees, Itself can produce high cup quality but is also very susceptible to coffee disease.

It has bronze-tipped young leaves, and the fruit and seeds are large

Few farmers grow straightforward Typica. Instead, many grow varieties that are cultivars of Typica linage due to the disease and yield.

Some of the most popular linage varieties that are from Typica are below

  • Kona                       Blue Mountain                  Sumatra
  • Criollo                     Arabigo                             Pluma Hidalgo
  • Bergundal AKA Garundang                           San Bernardo AKA Pache
  • San Ramon            Chickumalgur                   Blawan Paumah
  • Sidikalang               K7                                      K20
  • BMJ                         Guatemala                        Pache Comum
  • Pache colis             Villalobos                           Amarello de Botucatu

These can be seen on our coffee varieties picture map link

A study from world coffee research has quoted   “It is known by many names, including most famously Jamaica Blue Mountain. Others include Criollo (Creole), Indio (Indian), Arábigo (Arabica), Plume Hidalgo, and Sumatra.”

Tracing Typica back can take you all the way back to 1670 where the first seeds were taken to India from Yemen. To learn more about the history of Typica check out the World Coffee research
